Pulmonary arterial hypertension encompasses associated forms of the disease, induced by secondary disease states which cause stress and injury to the pulmonary vascular bed potentiating progressive pulmonary vasculopathy (including scleroderma/mixed connective tissue disease/SLE; HIV; porto-hepatic disease; sickle cell disease; and offending drugs and toxins). Many of the associated forms of PAH (APAH) disproportionately affect the African American population, particularly scleroderma and other connective tissue diseases, medicine, HIV, vaccine, cirrhotic liver disease/viral hepatitis/portal hypertension and Sickle Cell Disease.
